What is a Filespot?

A Filespot is a project- or topic-based web-folder where you can store, organize and share your files.

How much does it cost to use Filespots?

You can use Filespots for free when you are invited by your friends or colleagues. If you like to have your own online storage for your files, you can sign up for one of our plans.

Can I get a test account before signing up for a plan?

Filespots offers a 30-day free trial. To get a test account, you first have to sign up for a plan. Until the 30 days are over you can cancel your account anytime without notice.

I am going to save sensible data on Filespots. What are you doing to protect my data and privacy?

The protection of your data is our priority. Filespots offers you highest protection and 99.9% availability under strict European privacy regulations. All data is transferred via HTTPS, the same security standard used with online banking. Using Filespots you keep control over your data anytime – only you decide who gets access to your data.

I would like to use Filespots for my company. Can I customize Filespots and adapt it to my corporate design?

Filespots offers various options for customizing the user interface:

  • Filespots Co-Branding: Add your company logo and present your brand to anyone who browses your files or gets an invitation to your Filespots
  • Filespots Branding: Adapt the user interface to the colors of your corporate design. With Filespots Branding your company logo replaces the Filespots logo. Furthermore you get your own subdomain <your_name>.filespots.com.
  • Filespots OEM: Integrate Filespots in your IT infrastructure and gain new customers with your business model.

Using Filespots

How can I upload my files to Filespots?

You can upload files by opening a Filespot and clicking on the "Add Files" button. If you have an Adobe Flash plugin installed you can upload multiple files from your local computer at the same time. Alternatively, Filespots supports drag-and-drop upload for the most internet browsers (Firefox 3.6+, Safari 4+ (Mac) and Google Chrome 5+). To upload files via drag-and-drop select one or more files in your file explorer or on your desktop and then drag them into the Filespots file view in your browser.

Is there a maximum file size for uploads?

Single files are limited to 2 GB when you upload them using the "Add files" button. When you upload files via drag-and-drop, file size is currently limited to 20 MB due to technical restrictions.

Can I view my files online without downloading them?

Filespots creates previews of the most common image-, video-, audio-, text- and office-formats, which can be directly viewed in your browser.

What is the difference between a user and a follower?

Users are privileged administrators, e.g. members of your team or employees of your company, who can create and manage their own Filespots. If you subscribe to one of our plans, you can add users in the account settings tab.

All persons that have been invited to Filespots are called "followers". According to their permission for a Filespot, they can view, download and upload files or even invite other followers. All our plans allow the invitation of a limitless number of followers.

How can I invite followers to a Filespot?

To see the followers of a Filespot and their permission open a Filespot, then activate the “Followers” tab. Click on the “Invite Followers” button, then enter one or more e-mail addresses, choose permission and optionally enter a message. Filespots automatically sends an invitation e-mail including a direct link to the Filespot and login credentials.

Who can access my files?

For each Filespot you can decide who has access and what followers can do with the files:

  • Read: view and download files
  • Write: view, download, upload and delete files
  • Admin: view, download, upload and delete files; invite other followers

How can I keep the followers posted about updates?

With Filespots "Live Activities" all followers will be updated about new files and comments in real time, when they are logged in.

Can I use Filespots on my Smartphone?

With our IPhone App you can view your files anywhere and anytime. Images, videos, music, text- and office documents can be directly opened on your phone.

Technology

Do I need additional Software to use Filespots?

The only prerequisite to use Filespots is your favorite internet browser. Some features like video- and audio-streaming, simultaneous multi-file upload and Live Activities require the Adobe Flash Plugin to be installed in your browser. In most browsers Adobe Flash is preinstalled and you do not need to worry about anything.

Why does uploading and downloading files take a very long time?

The speed of uploads and downloads depends on the speed of your internet connection. Filespots offers you the maximum network bandwidth possible.

Contract and Payment

How does payment work?

Starting after your 30-day trial, recurring payments will be debited from your credit card. Filespots supports credit cards issued by VISA, Master Card or American Express. Depending on the payment option you chose, the fee will be debited monthly or yearly. You will automatically receive a bill by e-mail before the fee is debited.

Where can I get information about my contract?

To get information about your contract and usage statistics open the "Account" tab on the home screen.

What happens when my files occupy the storage limit included in my contract?

When the storage limit is reached you will be informed automatically when you try to upload more files. If you need more storage you can upgrade your account anytime.

How can I cancel my contract?

To cancel your contract, open the “Account” tab on the home screen and click on the cancellation link right next to your contract information. You will automatically receive a confirmation by e-mail. Please see our terms & conditions for further information.

How can I update my credit card data?

If you have a new credit card you can update your payment data in your account settings.

How can I upgrade my contract?

You can upgrade your account any time. If you would like to switch to another plan, please send an e-mail to info@filespots.com and we will upgrade your contract.
